Ethical AI: What you need to know

At a Glance

  • AI is not going away, and it can help us in many ways.

  • Occasionally, LLMs generate information that is made up or factually incorrect (hallucinations)

  • AI models were trained on copyrighted works like books, videos, images, etc., without permission. Lawsuits are ongoing.

  • AI Tools are a ‘black box,’ and their internal workings are not transparent or easily understandable, even to those who use or develop them.

  • AI models like ChatGP were trained on internet data, which contains a lot of misinformation and bias.

  • Bad actors are using AI for malicious, unethical, or harmful purposes.

Best Practices

Ethical AI means developing and using AI systems responsibly and ethically, valuing human well-being, respecting fundamental human values and rights, and promoting society's greater good.

  • Check every output for hallucination and misinformation.

  • Protect private data, and don’t enter anything proprietary or private into an AI model (we don’t have enough info yet).

  • Beware bad actors using AI for impersonation/fraud.

  • Don’t rely on AI detectors - there is currently no good way to clearly identify AI-generated content.

  • Focus on being even more human than necessary; focus on the heart and relationships.

  • Experiment with and adopt AI responsibly.
